The best way to create a two column landing page, at this time, is to use Content Area 1 and the Content Area (formerly Custom Email Form). We are working on a shortcode system that will allow you to make multiple columns in one WordPress Editor (i.e. Content Area 1). Look for it soon.

1. Choose a layout. You need to choose either Layout 1 or Layout 2. It doesn’t really matter which one you choose because they are both content areas edited by a WordPress editor.

2. Put your benefits, features and description in Content Area 1. Since we chose Layout 2, Content Area 1 will be on the right.

3. Set Email Management to Custom. Selecting Custom for your Email Management

4. Put your video link or player and the Custom Email Form shortcode, [ulpa_email_form/], in Content Area (formerly Custom Email Form). The Custom Email Shortcode will be where your email form appears.

5. Paste your email form code in the Custom Email Form for Shortcode box. You get this from your email manangement company (i.e. Mailchimp, Aweber, Constant Contact).

6. Save your landing page and view.

You should have at least one email subscribe form on every page. This is a good start to building your list. The problem is, many of your visitors may not pay attention to the form you have.

I’ve read some site owners say they have one email form in the right sidebar and they do really well with getting visitors to subscribe using that form. But, I can tell you from experience, placing the signup form on the top right sidebar doesn’t always produce the best results. Have you experienced dismal results with the general form on the right sidebar?

The truth is, there are multiple place that you should place your email opt-in forms to maximize the full potential of visitors signing up. If you look some of the sites that are growing their list by phenomenal rates, you will see they are using a variety of form placements to capture as many subscribers as possible.

One such blog is thinktraffic.net. Corbert Barr has been running thinktraffic.net for a number of years. For several years he ran his site with fairly good conversions on his email list, but he knew that the conversions could be improved. He decided to redesign his site and in doing so, one of the main things he focused on was the email form placement. By strategically placing forms on his site and testing the results, he was able to increase his conversions.

You really have to test to see what will work well on your site. You may find that moving your form to the end of the post works better than having it in the sidebar. You may also find that having multiple placements gets more people to subscribe.

I have found that two to three signup forms works the best on my blog post. I usually place one in the sidebar, one at the end of the post, and sometimes, one in the header or in the middle of the post.

Depending on your audience, you may find that having three forms is too aggressive and causes your conversions to go down. It goes all back to testing.

For a long time I would manually place forms on my sites. This would require me to copy and paste my forms in various places. It also meant I had to hunt down each of the forms when I wanted to make changes. It was a headache at times.

Now I use a WordPress Plugin to manage my email subscribe forms. The plugin is called Optinskin. Have you heard of it?

Usually when I get fed up enough with a problem, I will write my own plugin and share it. But when I saw how well put together Optinskin is and how it could help solve the problem of placing and testing multiple email subscribe form in many places on a WordPress site, well, I jumped on it. Let me show you how powerful it is.

1. Add a “pin it” button to your site. This is one of the easiest and most overlooked techniques.
It only takes a few minutes. If you are using WordPress, there are a bunch of plugins that will do
this for you.

2. Pin your own content. One of the best ways to get started is to pin your own content and link
it back to a page that has a call to action.

3. Open an account for each of your businesses. Just like your website, your Pinterest
account should be focused on one specific niche. This helps to keep your message clear when
someone visits.

4. Create boards that target specific keywords. When you create a board, the name of the
board is used in the url of the board. These urls get indexed in Google for the name. Because
Pinterest is a highly trusted site, this can have tremendous seo benefits.

Don’t be afraid to get creative and experiment with your marketing. -Mike Volpe, Chief Marketing Officer, Hubspot

5. Add a call to action so people will click through. Tell the person viewing your image what to
do. This has been proven through many test to work. If you just leave them with a photo and
no directions, they will hit the back button more often than if you make an offer and tell them to
click.

6. Pin your Youtube videos for more traffic. A really good way to get the view to click through
is to capture the image you are going to pin with the play button on top of it. When they see this
they will click on it to play the video. This will take them to whatever url you have linked it to.

7. Use hashtags in the captions of your pins. A hashtag is a keyword with no spaces and a “#”
appended to the front of it (i.e. #catsanddogs). This has become a standard way of tagging
content on social networks. As such, it is used on Pinterest, and it is a great way to get your
content found.

8. Add prices to pins so people will know you are selling something. PIctures of houses, boats,
books, and the like don’t convey to the viewer that they are for sale. Adding a price lets the
view know they can buy it.

9. Pin before and after photos that show your work. This is used very effectively in magazines
and tv ads. Comparing the old to the new instantly delivers the message that you know what
you are doing.

10. Create contest to drive more traffic and get more re-pins. You can run a contest on your
site and post a pin with the details and a call to action to click and participate. You can also run
a contest that requires a re-pin to enter. Randomly select a winner from the users that re-pin
your image.

Headlines can be dizzying to produced. I know many times before I learned this formula, my head would spin trying to fabricate a headline that might get people to respond. I stress might because I never knew if they would respond to the headline. It was just a guess. Then I learned this formula that made my conversions shoot through the roof.

The Formula

Viewer’s desired end result + time frame + answer to objection ( or a guarantee)

Let me start with an example.

Hot, Fresh Pizza Delivered in 30 Minutes or it’s Free

Hot, Fresh Pizza – desired end result
30 minutes – time frame
Or it’s Free – guarantee

Another example, the headline for this lesson

Write Powerful Headlines That Will Double Your Conversions in 5 Minutes

Write Powerful Headlines – desired end result
That Will Double Your Conversions – guarantee
In 5 minutes – time frame

When using this framework think of the number one benefit of your product or offering and make that the end result. Then take the number one objection or a quantifiable guarantee you can make to the user. Finally, use a realistic time frame that will make them say wow.

This formula has worked very well form me. Start to look around and analyze the headlines around you. You will see that many of them use some variation of this formula.

Now, tell me, in the comments below, about some headlines you are using or think about using in your business.
